Buninyong netball girls will be standing by their Bomber boys to cheer them on to victory today at the Central Highlands Football League grand final against the Hepburn Kookaburras.
Although Buninyong has bombed out of winning for the past 11 years, their supporters think this is the year to explode to the top of the league.
“It’s Buninyong’s year to shine,” said Belinda Phelps, team supporter and wife of player Mark Phelps.
The girls agree that the boys are hungry for a win, and that losing to their same opponents only weeks earlier have made them all the more determined.
“They all want it so much and they are such a close knit team that they will really work together to make sure it happens,” said Buninyong netball director Samantha Scullie.
Although the seniors netball team was unfortunately eliminated from the grand final, the girls take comfort that their support from the sideline and interchange each game has been “crucial” in getting their footballers to the Eureka Stadium field today.
“It’s what get’s them over the line every week,” said netballer Taylor Humm.
While they won’t give too much away about what other secrets weapons or tactics the boys have applied to ensure their success this season, a pasta religiously the night before or using the same jocks each week, might or might not have been taken into account.
