DRAGONS Abreast Ballarat are calling for public support to raise funds for the arrival of a national breast cancer mission.
After receiving news that his sister was terminally ill with breast cancer, Australian actor Samuel Johnson decided to set off on a 15,000 kilometre unicycle journey around Australia to raise $1 million and awareness of breast cancer.
He is due to arrive in Ballarat on September 29 and Dragons Abreast Ballarat are aiming to raise $10,000 for his cause.
If the target is met, Mr Johnson will row alongside the Dragons Abreast members in their dragon boat on Lake Wendouree.
Leadership Ballarat and Western Region executive officer Sofia Fiusco urged local organisations and individuals to get around the cause.
“The paddling is all about their wellness, fitness fun and camaraderie for being breast cancer survivors,” Ms Fiusco said.
“We chose Samuel to participate in a dragon boat race with the Dragons Abreast survivors because we thought it was very symbolic for women and men who aim to come together to make a difference.”
