THE hairdresser’s chair isn’t a regular appointment for Tim Harris.
Two years of head and facial growth produced an impressive mane, but that all changed last week when he allowed clippers near him for the Leukemia Foundation World’s Greatest Shave.
Mr Harris’ beard was started from scratch in September 2011 and has had one trim since.
He has raised $700 with an aim to crack the $1000 mark.
“It was a beard to be reckoned with,” Mr Harris said. “I figured it was going to have to be cut at some stage, why not donate as well?
“The lovely people at Lords and Lads Barber Shop have kindly donated their time and scissors.”
Hairdresser Hunter Sedgwick was honoured to be performing the operation and said he held an underlying respect for a beard.
“If he wasn’t shaving it for a cause I wouldn’t do it, it’s too glorious.”
Mr Harris’ girlfriend Laura Edmondson said she was supportive of him – beard or no beard.
“I’ve grown accustomed to it (the beard), but its nice to see his face again,” she said.
