Ballarat MP Catherine King was officially elected to represent the electorate of Ballarat yesterday.
Joined by fellow candidates, Ms King was recognised for her win by Australian Electoral Commission Ballarat divisional office manager, Adrian Claridge.
Speaking of the finalised results, Ms King said she was thrilled to be elected and to represent Ballarat for her fifth term as the federal member.
“This is an extraordinary honour and not something that I take lightly,” Ms King said. “It’s very important that all regional Australians have a voice in parliament.”
Thanking the people of Ballarat who voted for her, Ms King also extended her appreciation to the electoral commission staff and fellow candidates, including Liberal member John Fitzgibbon.
Final figures showed a 9.83 per cent swing against Ms King on first preferences, while on a two-party preferred basis the swing was 7.05 per cent against Ms King to John Fitzgibbon, leaving a 4.65 per cent margin.
