SPRING is in the air, and that means new ducklings are on the ground at Lake Wendouree.
Although this week has felt more like winter than spring, the lake’s new arrivals are a sign of better things to come.
Izzie and Charlotte Trace were enjoying an afternoon at the swings with their dad yesterday when they spotted the babies.
“They’re really cute and really little,” said five-year-old Izzie.
“I love the ‘quack’ noise they make and their feathers.”
Charlotte, 3, said she loved watching the ducklings because they didn’t chase her.
One flock of ducklings was being carefully led out of the water by its mother when The Courier dropped by.
Alison Peck spent the afternoon feeding them bread.
“They are a sign of new life and my favourite season, spring,” she said. “They’re so cute and fluffy and they fit cosily in your hand.”
Unfortunately, the weather is expected to worsen today before improving tomorrow and Monday.
Today’s Weatherzone forecast is for a top of just 12 degrees, with wind and showers.
Tomorrow should be mostly sunny with a top of 17 degrees, while Monday will hopefully warm up to a top of 22 degrees.
