WHEN Australian actor Samuel Johnson was caught on a plane yesterday and unable to make it in time to paddle with the Dragons Abreast ladies around Lake Wendouree, local identities stepped up to the plate.
Power FM’s Julia Zass and Olympian Steve Moneghetti made their way to Lake Wendouree, suited up and paddled with the team around the Lake Wendouree course.
Leadership Ballarat executive officer Sofia Fiusco said Ballarat aimed to raised $10,000 for Mr Johnson’s charity, Love Your Sister.
Dragons Abreast team paddling manager Margaret Van Berkel said it was great for the paddlers to team with local identities in a lap around the lake.
“We just want to help bring awareness to the cause that Sam is raising,” she said.
Phoenix College year 11 student Monica Weckert was at the lake supporting the group, promoting her own fundraiser inspired by Love Your Sister.
Monica’s fundraiser involves selling badges and encouraging people to walk, run, swim or cycle to raise money for Gandarra, after the mother of one of her friends died of breast cancer and was cared for there.
