A BUNCH of new faces has seen a boost in visitors to the Ballarat Wildlife Park these school holidays, but none can beat an old favourite.
The park has recently seen the addition of 24 kangaroos, 11 quolls, three koalas and two wallabies.
However, veteran wombat Patrick is still the most popular attraction.
“People are always asking me if Paddy is still there,” curator Julia Leonard said.
Believed to be Australia’s oldest common wombat at 27-years-old, Patrick gets driven around the park in a wheelbarrow each day at 11am, giving visitors a chance to meet him.
He also became an internet celebrity earlier this year, when a photo of him posted to Reddit was viewed more than 600,000 times.
Park staff have been using the internet to post updates on the animals and encourage people to visit.
“We’ve been on Facebook for about a year now, we post photos of the different animals and what is going on around the park,” Ms Leonard said.
The park is currently running a competition on its website to name the three new koala joeys. Mitsy and Pepper are among Ms Leonard’s favourite names.
“But of course, I can’t vote,” she said.
