THE countdown is on for the first round of this year’s midweek bowls season and I’m sure we’re all looking forward to Monday’s competition kick-off.
Central Wendouree’s double inclusion in division one will see the standard rise yet again, while Sebastopol has fielded a side for the first time in several years and will be determined to prove that it belongs.
Daylesford, Mt Xavier and Avenue should all challenge for the title.
That’s not to say that I’m ruling out the chances of the rest, with Smeaton, Webbcona, Midlands and Creswick all possessing very experienced line-ups. Please remember that entries for the over-60s singles and pairs events close on Friday, October 4.
Could club secretaries please email results into both The Courier and Val Savage on Monday.
When sending in teams on Friday, place the skippers’ names first, and if no email is available then the results are to be phoned in.
I am pleased to announce that Bowls Victoria has approved the Ballarat District Bowls Division’s bid to host the 2015 Women’s Country Carnival.
We expect that more than 800 women from all over Victoria will participate.
Finally I’d like to welcome Ballarat back to division four after an extended hiatus from midweek bowls.
The draw and my predictions for round one (in bold) are:
DIVISION 1: Mt Xavier v Creswick; Midlands v Avenue; Daylesford v Central Wendouree (B); Central Wendouree (A) v Smeaton; Sebastopol v Webbcona.
DIVISION 2: BMS v Ballarat North; Clunes v Sebastopol; Central Wendouree v Daylesford; Creswick v Victoria; City Oval v Beaufort.
DIVISION 3: BMS v Learmonth; Smeaton v Avenue; Invermay v Central Wendouree; Linton v Midlands; Sebastopol v Webbcona.
DIVISION 4: Mt Xavier v Clunes; Midlands v Buninyong; Daylesford v Creswick; Ballarat v Sebastopol; City Oval v Smeaton; City Oval v Victoria.
