MATT Curwood has just potted his way to a fourth junior state eight-ball title in a row, capping off a stellar year with the cue.
In the process the youngster has earned himself a spot at the 2014 Junior National Eight Ball Championships in January.
Curwood began playing pool at the age of 11, learning the craft from his father Mark, a former representative of the Victorian men’s team.
Curwood lost just three frames en route to his fourth straight title, this one the most impressive given that the 15-year-old was competing in the under-18 category.
His other victories came in the under-12 and under-15 categories.
“At his age he is possibly the most talented player that Ballarat has produced,” Pool Victoria president Don Colbert said.
“Over the past few years Ballarat has become one of the strongest producers of quality junior pool players in regional Victoria, and Matt is a great example of this.”
Curwood also competed at this year’s Berri Open eight-ball singles championships, reaching the final 16.
He will captain the Victorian team at the nationals, held in Melbourne’s Bar Eight, from January 8-15.
