BALLARAT Rush polished off its Basketball Australia under-14 club championships with an clear victory on home courts.
Rush defeated Newcastle Hunters, 61-35, in the play-offs for rankings in the tournament’s championship division.
Brisbane-based Southern District Spartans claimed the gold medal game against Sandringham Sabres to become the nation’s best under-14 girls’ club.
Ballarat hosted the championships at the Minerdome and Wendouree Sports and Events Centre last week.
The 24 competing teams also trained at venues across town.
To book a spot in six-day competition, clubs had to finish top two in a state or country level title. Ballarat was an automatic inclusion as host city.
Rush worked hard to finish top-two in pool F with two wins and one loss to claim a place in championship division among 12 teams in a battle for top rankings.
The remaining 12 teams moved into a shield division and also played for medals.
Tori Chandler captained Rush, with Glenn White as coach.
