A BALLARAT junior basketball squad has returned from the Victorian Country Club Championships with victory at the weekend.
When the final siren went Ballarat Exies-Acmy sat on 32 points, claiming a 12-point defeat against Geelong Pivot City.
Exies-Acmy coach Sharyn Canny said the mental strength of the 10-year-olds persisted through the physical exhaustion of the five-game tournament in Bendigo.
“They have been together for the last two years and now they’ve really gelled and are all good mates,” Ms Canny said.
“Their intensity throughout the whole weekend was great. By the fifth game they were physically exhausted but their mental toughness got them through.
Star players Will Clark, William Hynes, Matthew Gray and Liam Canny were selected for the Ballarat under-12s representative side who played in Future Stars tournament in April.
The under-18s girls team were put to the test throughout the tournament but could not quite take the cake, returning home as runners-up.
Exies Acmy were placed third in the final tally, taking a stance against 24 other Victorian clubs, but they could not knock off Pivot City (Geelong) and Generals (Bendigo) who placed first and second respectively.
