A CHINESE man living in Ballarat on a 457 visa exposed his genitals to various women after seeing a naked picture of a couple in a shop window, a court heard yesterday.
Yifeng Gao, 38, of Alfredton, appeared in Ballarat Magistrates Court where he pleaded guilty to two counts of wilful and obscene exposure in a public place.
The court heard Gao, a full-time welder employed and sponsored by a local manufacturer, exposed his penis to four women in two separate incidents on June 25 this year.
Police prosecutor Senior Constable Vikki Chaffey said that about 6.37am on June 25 Gao removed his penis from his pants in Lydiard Street, exposing himself to a woman walking towards him.
“While doing this the accused covered his face with his hands,” Senior Constable Chaffey said.
“She saw his penis and kept walking past.”
Shortly after, Gao stopped to observe a naked picture of a couple in a shop window, before exposing himself to three woman walking along Armstrong Street.
Senior Constable Chaffey said Gao ran from the women after they yelled at him.
Arrested on July 30, Gao made full admissions to police and through an interpreter expressed he was deeply ashamed and remorseful.
A lawyer for Gao said his client had recently been through divorce procedures and at the time of the offending his mind was a mess.
“On that morning, the breakdown of his marriage is foremost on his mind,” the lawyer said.
Magistrate Michelle Hodgson refused to take the matter further until she had access to material detailing Gao’s mental health.
Ms Hodgson adjourned the matter until December 16, ordering that Gao undergo a mental health assessment in the meantime.
