RICHMOND football manager Dan Richardson has confirmed Orren Stephenson's position at Punt Road is safe, despite the arrival of Carlton ruckman Shaun Hampson.
The triple North Ballarat Roosters' premiership ruck was lured to Tigerland via the AFL rookie draft last December as a mature-age back-up for starter Ivan Maric.
Stephenson, 31, played six AFL games in his first year with Richmond.
Hampson became a Tiger on Monday, day one in the AFL player exchange period.
Carlton secured the Tigers' second-round draft pick in the trade.
Hampson is touted to carry more rucking responsibility for the Tigers, to allow Maric more time up forward.
Stephenson was a shock draft to Geelong in 2011 and helped lead the Cats to a VFL premiership, his fourth, in 2012, before he was delisted at the Cattery.
Hedid not play against North Ballarat in the VFL for either Geelong or the Richmond-aligned Coburg.
