EUAN Walters will defend his lead in the Victorian pro-am order of merit at Mt Xavier Golf Club on Sunday.
Walters is among favourites for the $10,000 Mt Xavier pro-am, which, up to yesterday, had attracted 33 professional players.
He knows the Mt Xavier layout well.
Walters finished equal second in the event last year with a three-under par 67 – one shot behind Alex Hawley, who has been playing in Western Australia.
Walters is heading to Ballarat in solid form.
A winner of the Phillip Island pro-am in March this year before the circuit’s winter break, Walters heads to Ballarat after some consistent performances.
He had a top 20 finish in the 36-hole Border Open Pro Am, was equal third in the Cohuna pro-am with a five-under round and equal fifth in the Yallourn pro-am.
Michael Isherwood is another who looms as a contender at Mt Xavier.
He was just outside the top 20 in the Border pro-am and equal 14th at Cohuna.
Wade Lowrie and Luke Hickman are entries who have been in solid form.
Isherwood (+2) had a top 20 finish at Mt Xavier last
year, while Lowrie (-2) was equal fourth.
While the professionals will play stroke, amateurs will contest a Stableford event with shotgun starts at 7.30am and 12.30pm.
