BALLARAT-REDAN is creating Ballarat Cricket Association history in the opening round of the season.
The Combine has become the first club to field a team with a father and three daughters.
Mark Sculley and daughters Rebecca, Samantha and Emily are among five members of the Sculley family in the team.
Uncle Jason, Mark’s brother, is also playing.
Mark and Jason have been part of Ballarat-Redan for several years, but the three girls daughters decided to make the trip across from Coronet City this season.
“It’s great to play alongside the girls – it makes for a better atmosphere out on the field and we all get more competitive because we try and out-do each other,” Mark said.
Mark set the tone on day one against Napoleons-Sebastopol, taking 5-19 off 21 overs, including 11 maidens.
Samantha chipped in 1-29 off 10.
The Sculleys believe the father-triple daughter feat has been achieved at district level before, but never before in the BCA club competition.
They will take up the bat tomorrow to try and beat 142 runs.
“They’re great people to have around the club and we’re all very happy that the girls have decided to come over,” Ballarat-Redan thirds captain Greg Wakeling.
LUCAS TO LAUNCH TITLE DEFENCE
LUCAS will launch its BCA district division one title defence against Buninyong – the club it beat for premiership glory.
Lucas had a seven- wicket win in the final at Dunnstown last March.
This time will be a very different game, meeting in a one-day game on Vic Park 4. All BCA district cricket starts this weekend in a one-day game.
