Commuters may have been happy to see the return of trains to the Ballarat line this morning but the the joy may be short lived.
V/line is currently proposing two further closures in November and over the school holiday period, targeting low-use periods to continue work on the Regional Rail Link project.
The next closures are planned for the November 23/24 weekend and for a three week period commencing on Saturday December 28.
But V/line has assured commuters that additional buses will be planned for busy events over the period including New Year's celebrations and the Australian Open.
The return to buses may also have a silver lining in that September figures show even with the service interruptions V/line achieved its punctuality target of 92 percent of services on time for the first time in a year.
The Regional Rail Project, due for completion in 2016, is creating a designated track for regional rail services through the western suburbs corridor of Melbourne.
The project aims to increase the capacity of the regional network as well as overcoming the congestion of trains in the metropolitan area that has affected punctuality times.
