VICTORIAN governor Alex Chernov has stopped in Ballarat for the weekend to visit some of the city’s famous sites.
Touring with his wife Elizabeth, Mr Chernov yesterday took in the colour of the Royal South Street competitions at Her Majesty’s Theatre.
He presented certificates to some of the children who took part in the callisthenics competitions.
During his visit, Mr Chernov also visited the Botanic Gardens, Gold Museum and Art Gallery of Ballarat.
He said a treasured memory from this tour of the Town Hall was a viewing of the “Legislative Assembly 1896” painting which resides there.
The governor’s party also visited the Museum of Australian Democracy at Eureka.
“I think I need more time there because it such an overwhelmingly informative place. We enjoyed that very much,” he said.
