BALLARAT’S reputation as a musical hotbed has grown with the city blitzing the nominations for a statewide music award.
Three Ballarat bands were nominated for best regional act in The Age Music Victoria Awards, to be handed out on November 20.
Local heroes Gold Fields, Hunting Grounds and Yacht Club DJs will all challenge for the title, which only has five bands competing for it.
Music venue Karova Lounge received a nomination in
the best regional venue category, while Castlemaine’s Theatre Royal and The Bridge also feature.
Karova Lounge venue co-ordinator Shaun Adams said it was great to be recognised alongside a number of other great venues and artists.
“With the support of national touring acts, we have also been blessed to have the support of a great live music scene,” Adams said.
Meredith Music Festival and Golden Plains won recognition in the best festival category.
Music Victoria project co-ordinator Bek Duke said Ballarat had always had a strong music scene.
“It’s great to see that continuing and that there are a lot of younger bands coming through,” she said.
