THE first of the big three has finally arrived – Caulfield Cup Day.
It is D-Day for the Dan O’Sullivan-trained Tuscan Fire, with the once promising jumper fulfilling his connections’ dreams by lining up in the Cup.
He’s a big odds.
As long as new jockey Michael Walker can get him him away quickly for gate two, Tuscan Fire will be in the firing line for a long time.
Cup selection: Fawkner
WEIR’S BUSY DAY
DARREN Weir has almost certainly the busiest spring carnival meeting of his career.
He has had runners in bigger races - three Melbourne Cups – but overall he has seven runners
Race 1 – Scarlet Billows, unbeaten 3yo filly in two starts
Race 2 – Trust In A Gust, 3yo chasing three wins on end
Race 5 – Lonhspresso, mare returning from long injury-enforced break and chasing a fourth win on end. Royal Bender, always a chance.
Race 7 – Platelet , million dollar group 1-winning mare
Race 8 – Hurdy Gurdy Man, group winner
Race 9 – Ava’s Delight, smart mare
If you’re heading to the Avoca Cup on Saturday, October 19, enjoy the day.
It’s always a big day – a fun day.
Ballarat stables are turning out in force, particularly in the support races on the seven-race program.
Race 1 is at 1pm
