BALLARAT Police will be keeping a close eye on revellers at today's Avoca Cup, with an increased presence monitoring driver behaviour.
Ballarat Highway Patrol units will be in force at the popular race day, checking for drink-drivers and aiding with traffic flow after the event finishes.
Ballarat Highway Patrol Senior Sergeant Pat Cleary said drivers could be expected to be breath-tested when leaving the event.
He praised the many race goers from Ballarat travelling to the Avoca Cup by bus for being responsible.
"Generally the public and race goers are well-behaved and respect the day with other patrons," he said.
Senior Sergeant Cleary said police were also conducting hoon operations in Ballarat at the weekend.
"There will be high police presence. Every car available wiill be out there," he said.
