THE weather more than played its part on Saturday as racegoers were greeted with a cracker of a spring day for the race that stops the Pyrenees.
Around 6000 revellers attended the 2013 Avoca Cup, which included a full day of racing, fashions on the field and children’s activities.
More than 90 buses full of punters were driven in to the picnic race day from around the region, including a large contingent from Ballarat.
Get Out Of Town took home the chocolates to win the Blue Pyrenees Avoca Cup, which was the maiden win for Stawell trainer Dane Smith.
Avoca Shire Turf Club manager Kate Kirkpatrick said it was an enjoyable day for all who attended.
“It went really well, we’re really pleased with the response. The weather was perfect,” she said.
As expected, not everyone was there to watch the racing, with the fashions enclosure also a very popular part of the day.
Ms Kirkpatrick said the fashions on the field, hosted by stylist Meagan Harding, was very well received.
“Most people hang out there for the day. They don’t seem to care too much about the races,” she said.
