THE King of the Mountain foot race is returning to Buninyong’s annual community festival.
The Buninyong Good Life Festival, once known as the Buninyong Gold King Festival, will host the fun run, or walk, up Mount Buninyong.
The challenging race has not happened for 20 years, but used to run every year with the Gold King Festival.
Fun run organiser Jackie Crabtree said after co-ordinating a little family fun last year to coincide with the festival, they hoped to make it bigger and better.
“So we thought – why not go the whole way and bring back the King of the Mountain?”
The King of the Mountain is a race to the top of Mount Buninyong, starting at the Buninyong Football Club through a 5.5km course.
“It’s a race to the top – and the first female and first male will be crowned the king and queen of the mountain,” she said.
“There is a courtesy bus at the top of the mountain to drive people down, or they can run back doing an 11km course but who gets down first is irrelevant.
“The king and queen will be presented their crowns once the race has finished, awarded K1 and Q1 race numbers for next year’s race and the top three women and men will receive prize money.”
Following the run or walk, participants will be giving a free healthy breakfast from the Lions Club.
