SINCE he was 10 years old, Joey Cape has immersed himself in the world of music.
Growing up in a house full of musicians, it was inevitable that he too would travel the same path.
"I was naturally inclined to be interested in music," Cape said.
For well over two decades, Cape has been lending his voice, songwriting skills, guitar playing and casual charm to several bands including Lagwagon, Me First and the Gimme Gimmes, and Bad Astronaut.
More recently, the American musician founded the band Scorpios alongside his friend, the late Tony Sly who died mid 2012.
This month, Cape and his fellow Scorpios band member Brian Wahlstrom have been playing shows in tribute to their recently departed friend and bandmate.
"When I think of losing Tony, I think not of myself but of Tony's budding family, his many close friends and his loyal fans all desperately missing him," Cape said.
"I find an emptiness, a figurative hole in my chest and a literal hole in my life and I most certainly will never be able to fill it. "Still, I am a better person having known Tony Sly and will always consider our shared experience a fortune in hand and now in heart and mind."
The show will also provide a chance for local singer songwriters to take to the stage and showcase their skills.
"It's hard for musicians to get exposure and this is one way to see what's happening around town and to network with other musicians," Cape said.
