Thousands flocked to Buninyong yesterday for the town’s annual Good Life Festival, continuing the town’s tradition of a free, community-orientated event.
The festival is the re-invention of the long established Buninyong Gold King Festival which began in 1975 and had its last event in 2009.
For the first time this year, a fun run was incorporated into the program alongside the traditional market stalls, performances and competitions.
Organiser Miranda Donald said the 2013 event once again proved incredibly popular with families.
“It was a fantastic day, perfect for our markets and entertainment ... whenever there is no wind it makes it a great day,” she said.
“Throughout the day I think there would have been about five or six thousand people pass through.”
Ms Donald said the new additions in 2013 proved a hit.
“It was also really good to have 200 participants in the fun run,” she said. “We thought we would get 100, maybe, so to have 200 turn up was fantastic.
“The stalls in the main park were flat out all day and there were people everywhere.”
