IT was billed as Australia’s biggest garage sale with over 7000 households, schools and community groups putting their wares on sale.
Ballarat played a modest part in the national Garage Sale
Trail on Saturday, with just under a dozen outlets scattered across the city.
Nevertheless, it proved a worthwhile exercise for some of the
service clubs at least, including the Wendouree Rotary Club, Alfredton Rotary Satellite Club and the Y Service Club.
At the Rotary Wendouree site at 501 Dowling Street, several hundred treasure hunters seized the opportunity and forked out about $1000
for various recycled merchandise over the course of the day.
“Given we did not have a lot of time to promote it, it wasn’t a bad result,” Wendouree Rotarian David Sanders said.
“It is good see things go to a good home rather than just be wasted.”
