A ‘FREE-hit’ day has given the re-emergence of the Ballarat Lawn Tennis Club added momentum.
The club opened its new courts at Prince of Wales Park to the public on Sunday.
The response to the ‘hot shots’ and ‘cardio tennis’ sessions delighted BLTC president Denis Day.
“There was a lot of interest ... a lot of kids,” he said.
The club has eight artificial grass courts and is quickly getting back into full swing after being without a permanent base since its grass courts were dismantled as part of the relocation of the Ballarat Golf Club.
BLTC used hard courts at the neighouring Ballarat High School during the interim period and still managed to keep more than 50 members on its books.
Day said membership was already growing, with junior teams in the Ballarat Regional Tennis Centre pennant competitions and its own ‘hot shots’ and ‘let’s start tennis’ programs.
“Our motto is ‘family, friends and fun’,” he said.
