MELBOURNE has released former North Ballarat Rebel Rory Taggert.
He leaves the Demons after two years without playing an AFL match.
Another Rebels graduate Lucas Cook suffered the fate at Melbourne, being delisted without lining up for the Demons — as did Ben Mabon at North Melbourne on Monday.
Taggert from Horsham Saints in the Wimmera Football League was selected by Melbourne with selection 36 in the 2011 national draft.
Stress related shin and back injuries restricted him to just three VFL games with Melbourne affiliate Casey Scorpions.
The 20-year-old turned that around this year, playing in 17 games. Taggert played a pre-season game and was named an emergency for Melbourne’s round 23 clash with the Western Bulldogs, but did not break into the team.
His delisting means no player selected in the 2011 national or rookie drafts remains at the club.
Taggert said on twitter: “Shattered my time had to come to an end. “Thanks MFC for all the chance. A lot of memories and mates made for life. Hopefully not the end.”
Taggert was one three players delisted by Melbourne yesterday.
James Magner and Nathan Stark also suffered the same fate ahead of tomorrow’s list lodgement deadline.
