This weekend the Royal South Street Society Stems Showcase Spectacular will bring the 122nd annual competitions to a close.
The finale includes 18 selected performances showcasing talent in the fields of dance, calisthenics, vocal, instrumental, speech and drama.
Competitor Sarah Kruithoff has thoroughly enjoyed participating with her calisthenics club this year.
“It’s been really fun working with new people,” she said.
The Cranbourne Calisthenics College student has been dancing for nearly eight years. She said this year had been most enjoyable.
“It’s sad to leave because you miss everyone after a while,” the 13-year-old said.
“But I’ll come back next year.”
Royal South Street Society (RSSS) president Ronald Harrington agrees he has developed a fondness for the competition during his involvement over the past 29 years.
“The standard has been quite amazing,” said Mr Harrington who expects a large crowd at the final showcase.
Mr Harrington’s birthday falls during the creative event.
“All the girls sang ‘Happy Birthday to Mr Harrington’ – I was quite taken aback,” he said.
As next year marks 30 years of volunteering with RSSS for Mr Harrington, like many of the competitors he is looking forward to another successful year.
