ELLA Glenwright, 11, is one of the many children excited to splash into summer at the Eureka YMCA Outdoor pool which reopens today.
“I plan to just have fun,” Ella said.
Improvements including more shade areas, barbecue picnic facilities and upgraded disabled access areas were added during the cold season, costing $250,000.
Ballarat YMCA chief executive officer Mal Healey said the upgraded area accommodated for every age and every need.
“I think the public will be really surprised at some of the enhancements,” Mr Healey said.
He said there was large community interest surrounding the opening of the pool.
“Through the summer we will get over 100,000 visits to the outdoor pool,” Mr Healey said.
City of Ballarat councillor Belinda Coates said the area was in need of an uplift due to its popularity and community expectations.
“It really will make a great difference to the facility," she said.
A keen swimmer, Cr Coates said towels, sunscreen, Icy Pole money and a sense of fun were mandatory.
The pool's large slide will not open until December 1.
When asked if she wished to use the slide, Cr Coates laughed: “Not today, in December I will.”
