A STIFF upper lip was required to brave this morning's chilly weather, and at Loreto College oval they were hairy as well.
Hundreds of people gathered at the oval today as part of Springfest to try to break a Guinness World Record for wearing fake moustaches.
Lead On Ballarat project officer Emily Macdonald said the event was a bit of fun despite the weather.
"We fell quite short of the record, but our official count was 484 people," she said.
"I think everyone had a lot of fun.
"It's the first time we've attempted to do anything like this and considering the weather, we felt it was a pretty good morning."
Ms Macdonald said participants showed some creativity in how they wore the fake moustaches.
"The Guinness guidelines don't actually say you have to wear them on your upper lip," she said.
"I did see a couple of people with them over their eyebrows."
The current Guinness World Record for a crowd of 2268 people wearing fake moustaches was set in Fairfield, Iowa in the US.
