RHYS McLeod will warm up for his ride on Ethiopia in tomorrow’s $6m Melbourne Cup in Ballarat this afternoon.
McLeod is the only jockey engaged in the Cup riding at Sportsbet – Ballarat today.
He returns from suspension and has the one mount – Toolachee for Geelong trainer Kelvin Smith in the last of seven races, the Hygain 0-58 Handicap, 1400m.
Toolachee has won once in 26 starts.
McLeod has not ridden since being on Ethiopia in the Caulfield Cup, a ride for which he was suspended for 12 race meetings.
That ban would have prevented him riding in the Cup, but a successful appeal reduced the suspension to 10 meetings – allowing him to ride today and importantly get back on Ethiopia at Flemington.
