More than 250 guests were found sipping champagne or giggling in the photo booth at the Ballarat and District Trotting Club for the Melbourne Cup luncheon.
Author Julie Stafford spoke at the event, while Alistair Morrison had bidders dancing around the room to win the live auction.
Heather McBean, who dressed in a cool-coloured frock purchased in St Kilda, has supported the luncheon cause for the past four years.
“It’s a fundraiser with a lot of meaning,” she said of the organisation that aims to eliminate cancer.
“It’s a great way to celebrate the Cup with friends and laughter.”
Jan Williams was awarded Lady of the Day in an immaculate navy blue Ralph Lauren look, receiving a $1100 pearl necklace from Gems & Jewels.
The Best Dressed Male was the sleek Reda Moutawakkil, while Zoe Dwyer’s white and black headpiece received Hat of the Day.
The Fiona Elsey Cancer Research Institute rolled out the red carpet for its guests, raising more than $17,000 for its Ballarat research centre.
Research director Professor George Kannourakis said the research laboratory required $700,000 a year to function.
