Kasey Burton riding high with Australia in Oceania Pacific Basketball Championships in NZ

AUSTRALIA is one step away from a gold medal play-off in the FIBA Oceania Pacific Basketball Championships in New Zealand.

Ballarat's Kasey Burton will take to the court in the Australian under-19 women's team's semi-final clash with Tahit tonight.

Australia easily accounted for Samoa 101-40 in a qualifying final yesterday.

Burton scored 11 points, has three assists, one steal and one rebound.

She is averaging eight points and 4.5 rebounds a game for the tournament, which featured three preliminary rounds.

JUST 10 days until "Big Bash" outfit Melbourne Renegades arrive in Ballarat for a three-day community camp.

Interesting to see the Renegades have plucked a player from Victorian Premier Cricket ranks to complete its roster  - Footscray-Edgewater fast bowler Jake Haberfield.

Having moved from Adelaide, he tops the competition's wicket-taking list with 25 at an average of 14.32.

The Renegades squad: : Aaron Finch (c), Fawad Ahmed, Jos Buttler, Tom Cooper, Alex Doolan, Matthew Gale, Jake Haberfield, Mohammad Hafeez, Daniel Harris, Jayde Herrick, Michael Hill, Solomon Mire (community rookie), Muthiah Muralidaran, Peter Nevill, Aaron O’Brien, James Pattinson, Nathan Rimmington, Ben Rohrer, Will Sheridan, Matthew Short (development rookie), Peter Siddle.
