YMCA pools at Black Hill and Buninyong will open on Saturday, depending on the weather.
For the first time, sausage sizzles will be held on weekends to support community
groups.
The YMCA has invited community groups to take advantage of the
fundraising opportunity at Black Hill, Buninyong and Eureka pools.
Ballarat YMCA outdoor pool co-ordinator Allan Glenwrite said he loved seeing children out and being active.
“Summer is my favourite time of year and kids love it too,” he said.
“They just need to remember to be safe around water, remember to be sun smart and parents need to supervise their children.
“Ballarat doesn’t have a beach, so pools are it.”
Charlotte Peele, 6, loves summer because she gets to go swimming a lot.
She said she gets to do somersaults underwater, play with her boogie board and she’s learning how to do hand stands.
“I missed being able to go to the outdoor pools over winter,” she said.
Ballarat City Council deputy mayor Des Hudson said communities drive the whole pool experience.
“Pools bring neighbourhoods together over summer, as people come down have a swim and sit on the grass and chat,” Cr Hudson said.
The pools will open seven days a week on days when it is forecast to reach 22 degrees or higher.
Brown Hill pool will also open this weekend.
