Tim Wright now stands among great Australian and Ballarat rowers, including Simon Gillett, Anthony Edwards, Rob Richard and Gary Gullock.
Wright rowed as part of the Australian lightweight four in 1994 and 1995 in the Nations Cup and won gold at the World Championships men’s lightweight eight bow in 1997.
“It’s a great honour and incredibly humbling to be in the presence of great rowing figures like Jeff Sykes,” Wright said.
Wright was introduced to rowing as a 13-year-old cox with the Ballarat High team in 1985 before joining Ballarat-Wendouree Rowing Club in 1990.
He remembers competing in his first selection regatta in 1994 as an underdog.
“One week we were competing at Dimboola, the next we entered a selection regatta in Adelaide,” he said.
“It was a fairytale for us from ’94 onward.”
The Victorian Rowing Hall of Fame was introduced in 2009 and has since inducted 88 Victorian rowers who have represented Australia in the Olympics or World Titles.
