JOEL Milesevic has returned from a turbulent European moto-cross season.
Broken collar bones, chains and brakes tainted the Victorian champion’s otherwise successful year.
“It was a pretty inconsistent year, sometimes I rode bad, sometimes I rode good,” the 18-year-old from Lal Lal said.
“I spent six weeks injured and my bike had a few problems. I rode without a back brake for most of one race.
“With this sport it’s not if you crash, it’s when you crash.”
Yesterday he fine-tuned his ride alongside idol and Australian champion Billy McKenzie at Monza Park.
Milesevic first mounted the bike at age two, and has been attacking the sport at full throttle ever since.
He has represented Australia in Bulgaria and Italy after making a name for himself with the Victorian Senior A Lites and under-19 titles.
He plans to ride as a “privateer” next year, but the prospect of a professional team is still in his sights.
“You have to have a certain skill to be able to do it. It just makes you happy,” Milesevic said.
