THE Ballarat AMT Gold tennis tournament will be launched today.
The second edition of the event will be at Ballarat Regional Tennis Centre on December 19-22.
A 200-strong field of Australia’s best domestic players, featuring some of the country’s best juniors, will join a selection of overseas visitors in the tournament.
TENNIS Victoria will also next week launch the inter-regional country championships at Creswick’s Mt Prospect complex, where the titles will be contested.
The championships will be on January 3-5.
The inter-regionals will feature about 260 tennis players ranging from ages 12 – 45 and over representing the 11 country Victoria regions.
Teams play in sections from 12/under through to 45/over in singles, doubles and mixed doubles.
YOUNG ATHLETICS TACKLE NATIONALS
BALLARAT takes a strong representation into the Australian All-Schools Track and Field Championships in Townsville over the next three days.
Victoria has a team of 133 at the titles.
Ballarat’s representatives:
Holly Dobbyn (Ballarat Grammar School/Eureka AC) under-18 girls
Laura Hutchins (Ballarat Grammar School/Eureka AC) under-18 girls
Brad Castleman (St Patrick’s College)/Wendouree AC) under-14 boys
Sam Williams (St Patrick’s College)/Wendouree AC) under-14 boys
Geelong Grammar School student Rachel Waters, who is a Eureka AC members, is also competition in the girls’ under-18 division.
BALLARAT Grammar School will also compete in the Australian All-Schools track and field teams knock-out final in Townsville on Monday.
It will be represented
Sam Baird (400m), Nick Milton (400m hurdles), Liam Proccacino (400m) and Will Mills (400m), Arthur Armstrong (javelin), Patrick Reed-Rogers (1500m), Geoff Creber (1500m) and Joel Wilkinson (high jump).
