Renegades at full strength, Sri Lankan spinner Muralitharan to arrive next Saturday

MELBOURNE Renegades captain Aaron Finch will bring with him a near-full strength training squad into Ballarat next week.

Legendary Sri Lankan spinner Muttiah Muralitharan will arrive next Saturday night ahead of Sunday’s double practice matches at Eastern Oval.

Hard-hitting Englishman Jos Buttler will also be about for an open training session on the Saturday.

Renegades fans can expect to see all big names – Fawad Ahmed, Alex Doolan, Jayde Herrick, Nathan Rimmington and Ben Rohrer – about town next weekend.

The Renegades yesterday confirmed the only two players ruled out will be Australian fast bowler Peter Siddle, with Ashes commitments, and Pakistani Twenty20 captain Mohammad Hafeez, who will be overseas.

Australian quick James Pattinson remains waiting for clearance from Cricket Australia to take part in any Renegades practice matches, which are part of the Wipe Off 5 – Ballarat Bush Bash weekend.

Pattinson will be in action today in Ballarat for Victorian Premier Cricket club Dandenong as a batsman only in his comeback from a stress fracture in his lower back.

Finch will feature about Ballarat on all three days of the Renegades community program, which starts with school clinics on Friday.

We can expect to see Ballarat schoolboy Matt Short on Renegades duty through the camp.

The East Ballarat and St Patrick’s College export was named as a Renegades development rookie last month.

Short is tipped to feature in at least one of the Renegades’ practice matches against the South Australian-based Darren Lehmann Cricket Academy.

Ballarat was selected from a pool of regional centres, including Ballarat and Geelong, to host the Renegades camp.

The Renegades will open their Big Bash League campaign against cross-town rival Melbourne Stars at the MCG on December 20.

• Melbourne Renegades and Victorian one-day coach Simon Helmot will be present a coaching seminar, ‘Batting 360’ at Eastern Oval on Friday night from 5.15pm.

The free seminar is open to all Ballarat coaches.
