MOUNTIE Dan Hopkinson headlined City Oval action on Saturday with a four-wicket haul in Ballarat Cricket Association club firsts.
It was always going to be tough for Ballarat-Redan chasing down the Mounties' formidable 375-run tally from day one.
The Combine mustered 102 runs in reply, bustled out within 45 overs.
Combine captain and opener Allister Edmends (32 runs) and number four bat Jayden Hayes (27 runs, 2 fours) had the biggest impact with the bat. They simply lacked support.
Hopkinson finished with 4-30 off his 13 overs.
The Mounties returned to the crease.
Paull Jeffrey and Matt Ward stepped up to the crease in an unbeaten 76-run partnership in 13 overs - Jeffrey with 35 runs (3 sixes) and Ward with 41 (4 fours) - to polish off play.
The Mounties will be back in action again on Sunday morning, representing the Central Highlands, for a Victorian Statewide Twenty20 Cup regional knockout clash against East Belmont in Geelong.
*Remaining BCA club firsts matches will be completed on Sunday, due to Victorian Premier Cricket in Ballarat on Saturday
