The 17-year-old, from Gisborne, completed a strenuous state netball training camp at the weekend.
“I was up at 5am on Sunday and had to do 200 monkey squats, hundreds of push-ups,” Dickers said.
“I wasn’t expecting to get in the team. It was a surprise – last year wasn’t a great year.”
Dickers played with Monash in 2012 and described it as a bench-warming season after she partially lost interest in the game.
“I was on the bench most of the time at Monash. I joined Pride this year after speaking with friends who had played here and said it was a really friendly club,” she said.
“I had good training and picked myself back up and got into it.”
The shooter/goal attack, who stands above six feet, has set a high benchmark for her future.
“I want to play for Australia. If I stay focused and put my mind to it I’ll get there,” she said.
In the meantime, Dickers plans to develop her game play in the Victorian Netball League and will play with the Victorian squad in the nationals next April.
