The Transport Accident Commission (TAC), City of Ballarat and Melbourne Renegades have renamed Wendouree Parade, ‘Wipe off 5 Parade’, ahead of this weekend’s Wipe off 5 Ballarat Bush Bash.
TAC Chief Executive Officer Janet Dore said the street’s renaming was a fun way of reminding locals of a serious issue: sticking to the speed limit.
“It can never hurt to be reminded of the dangers of speeding, particularly with the busiest time of the year on our roads fast approaching,” Ms Dore said.
“My mother lives on this very parade, so I feel very strongly about everyone doing the right thing here and on all Victorian roads, for that matter.
Ballarat Deputy Mayor Des Hudson joined Ms Dore and the Melbourne Renegades in unveiling the temporary street sign this morning.
“The Wipe off 5 Ballarat Bush Bash has been a fantastic partnership project that not only offers a sporting spectacle for our residents but promotes the TAC messages that will help ensure our community is safe on the road,” Cr Hudson said.
Despite the state road toll being considerably lower compared to this time last year, Ballarat has tragically seen an increase in road fatalities in 2013.
