Police are investigating a fatal crash that claimed the life of a man at Newstead yesterday afternoon.

Investigators believe the driver and sole occupant of the vehicle was travelling west on the Pyrenees Highway just after 5.30pm when he lost control and left the road.
The vehicle struck a tree approximately 150 metres west of Monash Street, trapping the 56-year-old driver.
The man, a resident of Newstead, was airlifted to The Alfred hospital where he later died.
Police will prepare a report for the Coroner.
