The former Central Highlands Football League team coach will lead the charge in the Worksafe AFL Victoria Country Championship match against the Goulburn Valley Football League team in May next year.
Skontra said coaching the inter-league team was not initially on the cards, but the opportunity arose after he was appointed director of coaching at the Ballarat Swans.
“Moving into the BFL meant a fresh start, it wasn’t anything that I’d planned,” he said.
“The values and principals from coaching the CHFL can be introduced to that higher level of footy, combined with the skills of the players to marry it up and get a good end result.”
Ballarat Football and Netball League operations manager Aaron Nunn said there was no doubt Skontra was the right man for the job.
“He obviously comes with high credentials with his role at the CHFL,” Nunn said.
“He comes with a wealth of experience, he is very organised and very motivated and looking forward to coaching the team.”
Skontra coached Waubra to two premierships between 2006 and 2011 and was at the helm of the CHFL interleague team last year.
