SIXTY naked “athletes” capped off a splendid Meredith Music Festival to compete for the golden jocks.
The Meredith Gift circled the Supernatural Amphitheater and was battled out in four male and female heats.
Male winner Dave said it had been his second attempt at the gift.
“I had a weight advantage ... so I think I did alright,” the Kilmore man said.
Dave said he wasn’t concerned about baring all, as long as his mum didn’t see any photos.
Co-organiser Matt High has been involved with the festival for more than 20 years and said he was surprised each year by the attitude of revelers.
“It never ceases to amaze me how much fun people can have while still being respectful to one another,” he said.
“That’s why we keep doing what we do.”
Mr High noted the performance of the festival – Chic featuring the ultra-cool Nile Rogers.
“After playing at Meredith three years ago he (Nile Rogers) said to me ‘bring me back here’. We tried to get him to Golden Plains this year but couldn’t get him on until Meredith. He was great,” High said.
High said cutting ticket sales to 12,300 – 500 down on the 2012 event – made a “massive difference” to the pressures put on services, caterers and volunteers.
He said paramedics had reported no serious issues, aside from dehydration, bull-ant bites and feet lacerations.
Eight police were on duty during the three-day event and reported a positive outcome.
Wyndham CIU detective senior constable Lindsay Lee said the event had been “spotlessly” run.
“I was completely impressed. Everyone was here to have a good time,” she said.
She said no arrests were made within the festival over the course of the event, however a number of people were charged in relation to trespassing.
