Remy Lawless and Georgia Amoore have been selected as this week’s Sportz Biz Junior Sports Stars of the Week.
The two 12-year-olds were among 120 players selected from a crop of 180 that attended the Vic Country team camp to compete at the Challenge in January.
Vic Country will contest the Australia Junior Country Basketball Cup against Vic Metro, Western Australia Metro, South Australia Metro, South Australia Country and ACT.
Since their first bounces five years ago, both girls are paving a successful path through junior basketball and currently play for the under-14 girls Ballarat Rush side in the VJBL competition.
Lawless said she loved playing basketball because it was a team sport.
“I’ve made heaps of friends from different places, especially with the Vic Country team,” the shooting guard said.
In the lead up to their selection Amoore and Lawless were invited to attend the Basketball Regional Academy under-14 skills day in March where 800 athletes were selected across eight regional centres.
From that 430 were selected into the Regional Academy and completed a 20-week program in their local area under the guidance of experienced Vic Country coaches.
Remy and Georgia are this week’s The Courier Sportz Biz Junior Sports Stars of the Week. They receive a $50 voucher courtesy of Sportz Biz, Ballarat. To nominate someone you know, fill in the form below.
