Ballarat morning sports catch up

AN information session focusing on Ballarat's three new open-aged women's football teams will be held tonight.

The Ballarat Football League will conduct the meeting for players and volunteers interested in joining one of the clubs that will play in the Victorian Women's Football League next year.

Clubs entering teams will be introduced at the session.

The BFL website listed the following areas that will be covered at the meeting, which starts at 6.30pm at Saxon House.

- Proposed structure for the VWFL competitions and probable start date

- How to register with one of the new clubs

- Registration costs and insurance coverage

- Likely travel involved with playing in the competition

Meanwhile, the Australian cricket team can reclaim the Ashes in Perth this afternoon.

The Aussies are on the brink of taking an insurmountable 3-0 lead in the best of five series, needing five more wickets to win the third Test today.

England is 5-251 in its second innings, needing a further 253 runs to win.

In Twenty20 cricket, the Melbourne Renegades are putting the finishing touches to their preparation for the Big Bash League season, which starts on Friday night.

The Renegades are back in Melbourne after a three-day community camp in Ballarat last weekend.

They meet the Melbourne Stars on Friday at the MCG.
