Long-time donor Mike Condon, who is the proprietor of Toyland, said he had donated to the appeal for about 20 years.
Mr Condon said his family’s house had burnt down as a child and the support his family received at the time is one of the main reasons he continues to donate.
“I think it is good to be seen doing the right thing and it is good to do the right thing,” he said.
Appeal director Peter Caligari said Mr Condon had been very generous.
“Once again the Ballarat community has just been incredible and that has been indicated again today by Mike at Toyland, who has supported the appeal for so many years,” Mr Caligari said.
With one week left for donations, Mr Caligari said they were “clawing” towards a record total.
