As the city sweltered through a 36-degree day, many residents headed to the Eureka Swimming Pool to cool off.
Ten-year-old Ballarat local Ella James and her family arrived at the pool in the afternoon, after the heat had become too much.
“They just want to sit in the shade but I want to be in the water,” she said.
The cool water proved too alluring for our intrepid reporter Pat Nolan, who decided he would test the pool out.
“I had been cooped up in the office all day and thought ‘why not?’ ” he said.
“It was pretty nice once I got in there, although it probably would have been better if I had brought my bathers.”
Ballarat is in for another hot day today with temperatures expected to hover in the low 30s.
However, a cool change is coming through on the weekend, as Ballarat returns to a rainy and cold beginning to summer.
