Several police units were involved in apprehending the man, who was driving a black Holden GTS sedan.

Sergeant Kori Fraser said the car had been spotted driving erratically in Geelong earlier yesterday.

“Members of the public were ringing up saying he was driving all over road again,” he said. 

“We had concerns for the safety of the public and one of our highway patrol members spotted him again on the Western Highway.

“We had a pursuit with him in and around the Ballarat area, out on the freeway and into the back roads of Warrenheip.” 

Police were forced to deploy stop sticks, a device which slowly deflates a car’s tyres, to stop the vehicle. 

The man reached the high speeds on the Western Freeway, travelling east towards Melbourne shortly before 1pm.

The car was stopped after leaving the freeway near Warrenheip and the man was placed in custody without further incident.

“His car is going to be impounded and he is going to be placed before the courts in the not-too-distant future,” Sergeant Fraser said. 

“Just a reminder in relation to speed, the police are out there and we will find you. 

“We will catch you and we will put you before the courts.” 

Sergeant Fraser said anyone who saw this sort of behaviour on the roads should contact police immediately.
