Matt Short pulls on baggy green for Boxing Day Test

RISING Ballarat cricket star Matt Short has been working with the Australian squad for the first two days of the Boxing Day Test at the MCG.

The Australian under-19 cricketer has undertaken 12th man duties, like running drinks and offering general assistance to squad members.

In a big year for Short, aged 18, the East Ballarat export signed a development contract with the Victorian Bushrangers and was also picked up as a development rookie with Big Bash League club Melbourne Renegades.

Short made a century in his international debut on an under-19 tour of New Zealand earlier this year and was this month shortlisted in the Australian squad for the International Cricket Council under-19 world cup in the United Arab Emirates.

He returned to Ballarat a fortnight ago the Renegades' three-day community camp and practice matches.
